. 1 - Before the Earthquake
Ensure that anti-seismic construction standards established by the municipal councils , are fully respected.
Take care of all the furniture and other appliances are attached to the walls .
Do not place objects on wardrobes , doors, stairs and other above the windows of the rooms facing the street or indoors.
Please always house a battery powered radio , flashlight , canned food , water and medicines necessary for first aid.
Make sure everyone knows where they are stored .
Worry about visit areas greater security in your houses , such as covers , stairs, solid furniture , etc. .. Teach all family members how to cut the gas , water and electricity.
Think of a plan to reunite the family after an earthquake , in case someone is separated .
In schools , request that management and teachers explain to students upperclassmen to do in case of earthquake.
At work , find out whether in the office or workshop has an emergency plan . It has responsibilities is an emergency ?
It has a special task to perform ?
2 - . During an Earthquake
Be calm , do not show panic to family members .
If you are at home or other building : take cover under a sturdy piece of furniture , lean on a wall , get under the arch of an interior door , away from windows and exterior doors .
If you are outside : move away from buildings to prevent ledges , walls, windows, etc.. buildings reach it if they fall . Do not stand under the power lines .
Do not use candles or matches or any flame.
If you are in your car : stop immediately , if not go down after a few seconds. If possible , park in a point away from the buildings that could fall on you
At work , get under a sturdy table or cabinet . Stay away from windows . Evacuate the premises if required. Use the stairs instead of elevators.
At school , get under the table , his back to the window. If you are in the yard , stay away from the building . If you are on the school bus , stay in the seat until the driver stops.
. 3 - After the earthquake
Note any injured person around . Practice first aid if necessary.
Check for water leaks, gas , close the taps . Check outlets . Check for gas leaks by smell. If detected, open windows and doors , leave immediately and notify the appropriate authorities.
Listen to radio and emergency advice . Do not use the phone , save it for higher priority calls .
Do not use the toilets until sewer is controlled.
Shoe boots to protect against broken glass and debris.
Withdraw damaged property .
Stay away from beaches and coastal areas where a tsunami may occur even after the earthquake is over. Do not go into damaged areas unless it is authorized .
At school or work , follow the emergency plan or the instructions given by someone in charge .
Beware of aftershocks ( small earthquakes ) that can cause additional damage.
